Preliminary Task - Analysis of College Magazine Cover 1

Masthead: In big letters. White standing out against the pink background and yellow even more. Taking the top third of the magazine making it as visible as possible so therefore it stands out against other magazines in a newsstand.

Cover Lines: All cover lines are to do with something a typical American Cheerleader would be interested in. To draw more attention to them they have changed the colour of the text and even the font
Buzz Word: “WIN!” making the reader feel like they have to buy the issue otherwise they may miss out on winning the prize.

Graphics: Completely bright pink background, this will already make this magazine stand out on a newsstand a not many magazines go for such a brightly coloured background. The colours all together, pink, white, purple and yellow make it clear to us that their target audience is the stereotypical “girly girl”. The colours aren't so sophisticated either so it is again made clear that they are targeting to the younger girl.

Skyline: Keeping in with the colour scheme. The white text standing out against the pink background. Showing that it is an important part of the magazine, and encouraging cheerleading as a scholarship worthy sport.

Main Image: Girl wearing sparkly purple and black cheerleading outfit. Pretty, dyed blonde hair (Barbie). The image has overlapped the masthead making it the focus. The main image is of a girl who all little girls want to grow up to be, and in reading that magazine they can become her.
